ESREF 2018, the 29th European Symposium on Reliability of Electron devices, Failure Physics and Analysis, organized by CORPE, Department of Energy Technology, Aalborg University, Denmark, from October 1st to 5th, has been a great success. 411 participants from 43 countries, out of which 268 ordinary delegates, 103 students and 40 exhibition staff have populated the most important European event of the year regarding reliability of electronics. On top of them, 31 among organization committee members and volunteers made ESREF 2018 reach the unprecedented score of 442 participants. “We at Department of Energy Technology can be proud for the event success” – declares a smiling and relaxed Prof. Francesco Iannuzzo, the general conference chair – “everything has worked perfectly thanks to the incomparable effort of all the organization committeemembers. I would like to make a special mention to Hanne Munk Madsen and Patricia Have, who believed in the conference success from the beginning and devoted a lot of extra hours to make it happen. There is no doubt that the conference has been a big happening, as we got a large number of positive feedbacks and appreciations. AKKC – the Aalborg Congress and Culture Center – has been a perfect venue that gave a real impression to participants about how things are modern and dynamic here in Aalborg. I could breathe a very positive and constructive atmosphere all over the conference days, where people could find plenty of opportunities to meet and make networking. I couldn’t resist peeping into the technical sessions and find many of them sold out of seats, or into lunches and coffee breaks with hundreds of people discussing about common issues, not to mention the crowded poster session.”
ESREF 2018 has got 368 submitted papers, out of which 239 accepted (65% acceptance ratio), spread over 15 topic tracks and 31 oral sessions, with up to 4 sessions running in parallel. On top of the 7 invited speakers, 5 tutorials and 4 workshops, 2 prestigious keynotes have been contributing significantly to the conference quality, namely: Dr. Paolo Gargini, INTEL Corp. Santa Clara, USA, and Dr. Philip Carne Kjær, Vestas Wind Systems, Denmark. 25 exhibitors from all over the world populated the bright foyer at AKKC over all the conference days, allowing participants ask questions and get updates on the state-of-the-art technologies.
“I believe it is also worth to mention the many exciting social events happened during the conference, i.e. the welcome reception, sponsored by the Aalborg Commune, the Young Professional reception, organized by Paula Díaz Reigosa, the gala dinner, at the astonishing Voergård castle, and the technical tour on Friday to Vestas manufacturing plants” – concludes prof. Francesco Iannuzzo – “that made it possible a perfect combination of technical contents, networking, and social integration”.
It is worth to note that the 1st APETT symposium took place on Thursday October 4th, in connection with ESREF conference.
